Hello I’m Governor Mike Pence.
The holidays are a time of tradition for families all across the Hoosier state. From trimming the tree to singing carols and enjoying time with friends, loved ones and neighbors, every Hoosier family finds their own special way to celebrate the season. For me, Christmas is all about family.
As a child growing up in Columbus, Christmas meant loading everyone into our station wagon, making our way to Chicago to celebrate the day with my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. When our family came along, it’s been Christmas Eve with Karen’s family, Christmas morning under our tree, and Christmas Day with my mom. These memories and traditions define Christmas for my little family and they always will.
During this time of year, let’s all remember those in our armed forces who, in answering the call of duty, are away from the ones they love this holiday. To them and their families, we offer our utmost respect, profound gratitude and prayers that our Hoosier heroes will make it home safely by Christmas next year.
Regardless of where you are in the hustle and bustle of this holiday season—whether it’s traveling to visit relatives, enjoying the holidays here in Indiana, or a member of our armed forces deployed overseas—let’s each take a moment to pause and reflect on the many blessings in our lives. And in this special time of the year, let’s make a renewed effort to share the joy of this season with those most in need. For it’s in giving that we receive the greatest Christmas blessing.
And so to Hoosiers near and far, I say, from my family to yours, Merry Christmas, Indiana. May you each enjoy a safe and blessed holiday season.
